Blurb:

“Spread the Light and inspire others to do the same.” — N. N. Light

In 2013, we wrote a mission statement and started a blog. We wanted to test a theory. Could one person (or in our case, one couple) use uplifting words to create change?

The answer is a resounding yes! People from all over the world responded to our short inspirational thoughts of the day, and our following grew. What started out as a few people promoting kindness and goodwill turned into a movement. In every city, there are Light-Bearers making a difference and we want you to join us.

Everyone needs inspiration. It doesn’t matter what spiritual belief you hold dear, you have the Light inside you. Kindness, compassion, empathy, encouragement are all attributes of the Light. In this book, you’ll find a ninety second inspirational thought for each day of the year. You’ll be inspiring people to spread the Light daily with our collection of inspirational thoughts. From giving of yourself to simply smiling, these are easy concepts for anyone to apply!

Stacy’s Thoughts:

5 ***** stars!

N. N. Light’s Book of Daily Inspiration is inspiring indeed! It reads like a devotional, with thoughts for each day throughout the year– a perfect way to start a day and get the mind on good, constructive, productive thoughts. The thoughts range from inspiring to encouraging, profound and logical… and everyone needs an encouraging boost, words to edify and uplift everyday. Life can be difficult and discouraging, and reading the passages helps to put the mind on the positive. I would recommend the book to everyone. It is a goldmine! I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thanks!

Daisy’s Review:

3 *** stars

Warning: This is a very long review, more like an article, and is from a very Christian perspective. Read at your own risk.

This is a day-by-day book of inspirational quotes and insights taken from this husband and wife team’s blog, meant to give people encouragement and enlightenment.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I loved the premise of it, and I have previously enjoyed N.N. Light’s work, so I had good expectations. Unfortunately, I discovered several things about this book that I did not like or agree with. I don’t like to say negative things about books, especially when they are written by such nice people, but for the sake of honesty I will.

I felt that the book pushed the self-love idea way too much. Today the world is overloaded with selfish, self-centered people, and this constant praise makes it much worse. “You are a precious jewel”, “be your own best friend”, “you are a beautiful person”, “love your flaws for they are a part of you and they are what makes you beautiful”, “love yourself”. This is really bad advice for people who are already too self-focused, which today is a LOT of people. Actually, it’s bad advice for anybody. We all fall short of the glory of God. No man is perfect. We all have flaws. But if you embrace those flaws, then you won’t work on fixing them. We need to strive for perfection, knowing that we will fall short, but also knowing that we tried. Meekness is listed among the fruit of the Spirit, and those are praised who have “humbleness of mind”. Loving yourself, including your flaws, is the opposite of humble and meek.

We would all do good to remember Galatians 6:3: “For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.” It sounds harsh, but the truth often does.

Another thing that this book stressed was the importance of self-gratification, saying things such as:

“Life is too short… you gotta have fun!”
“Have the courage to follow your heart. Everything else is secondary.”
and “Have fun. Fall in love. Regret nothing, and don’t let people bring you down.”

Having fun should not be nearly as important as faith, hope, and love. Following God should come before pleasing yourself, every time. Ecclesiastes 7:4 comes to mind: “The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.”

But all of that aside, there were several positive things I liked about the book. I liked the positivity and optimism of the author. I liked the layout of the book very much, and how she started each day with an encouraging quote. I enjoyed many of the messages. And overall, I feel that Mrs. N is such a beautiful person because she encourages others to greatness! Three stars.

Interview with N. N. Light:

Hello everyone. My name is MRS N and I’m one-half of the nom-de-plume otherwise known as N. N. Light. Stacy and Daisy were kind enough to ask me to drop in for an interview. I swear, they are the sweetest and more patient ladies on the planet. They’ve been so understanding about my writing/editing/marketing deadlines and I’m so grateful. Anyway, MR N couldn’t make the interview due to his workload at his day job so I’m filling in.

twogalsandabook: Did you always want to be an author?

N. N. Light:  Yes, it’s been my big dream to be an author. I started telling stories to my stuffed animals when I was a toddler and moved up to humans once I learned to talk. When I finally mastered the art of printing and handwriting at the early age of six, I started writing down my stories. I believe my first story was about a princess who rescues a purple dragon from a bunch of vines. Lol!

twogalsandabook: Have you always been an avid reader? If so, do you feel any books have influenced your writing?

N. N. Light:

Yes, I have my parents to thank for my love of reading. They both read to me since I was born and later, I read on my own. Every Saturday, my mother would take me to our local library and we’d spend most of the day there.

Books have always been my constant companion and my way of escape. I was a shy child who had divorced parents. Whenever I needed an escape, I’d read. It was easy enough for me to travel back in time, enter worlds unknown and befriend fascinating people.

Books have also shaped me into the woman I am today. I soaked up everything I learned in books and reading allowed me to experience what others did, whether it’s racism, classism, sexism, bullying, flying, traveling and of course, love.

My first answer is every book, whether good or bad, has influenced my writing in some way or another. As for influencing my writing, several inspirational/motivational writers have had an impact on my writing voice. Max Lucado, Marianne Williamson, Zig Ziegler to name a few.

twogalsansabook: Do you have any favorite books/ authors/ poets?

N. N. Light: I have many favorites and there isn’t enough space to write them down. It’s such an unfair question, especially for voracious reader like myself. My tastes are all over the place and my library is filled with over 400 of my favorites.

twogalsandabook: How long have you been writing as a team?

N. N. Light:  It started out with MR N being my beta reader but then he had immense insight, so we began writing together. He brings a male perspective to whatever project we’re working on that I just don’t have. He’s also a great mind-reader. He knows what I’m trying to say and gently nudges me in the right direction and focus.

twogalsandabook: Do you have a favorite place to write, or any special writing rituals or atmosphere?

N. N. Light:  I write on the laptop in the home office. It has a beautiful view of the outdoors and gets me inspired. I also tend to get writing breakthroughs in the washroom. We keep a notepad in there for that purpose.

twogalsandabook: How do you deal with writer’s block?

N. N. Light: I go for a walk or listen to Pink Floyd. Music unblocks in ways nothing else can.

twogalsandabook: How do you handle negative reviews or criticism?

N. N. Light: I read every review/critique and take it to heart. I know I shouldn’t but I’m an emotional artist. I don’t respond to it but I try to use it as motivation to improve my writing skills.

twogalsandabook: What first inspired you to want to inspire others?

N. N. Light:  Call it a characteristic or a spiritual gift but ever since I was little, I’ve been an encourager. When I see someone down or in need of help, I encourage them. I have a positive outlook on life and feel my words or encouragement make a difference.

Back in 2013, I got the urge to write little inspirational thoughts on my blog. They weren’t long but meant to uplift people. The world got progressively darker and I truly believe my blog posts were a way to combat the evil in the world.

twogalsandabook: How did you get the idea to connect your blog posts into a book? Was a book the end goal of the posts?

N. N. Light:  Last Spring, when we were planning out our writing projects and what we wanted to publish, I came up with the idea to publish a book of inspirational thoughts. It was a massive project to  pick out inspirational thoughts, reworking them and creating the book. But, in the end, the hard work was worth it. When we’re long-dead and buried, our book will still be around.

twogalsandabook: How long did it take you to write your book of inspiration from conception until the end?

N. N. Light:  It’s a compilation of three years worth of blog posts into one volume so, in my view, three years. But putting the manuscript together took about five and a half months.

twogalsandabook: Do you plan on writing anymore devotional type books, or will you do a different genre? Can we expect to see anything in the near future?

N. N. Light: We have plans in the future to publish more motivational books. Next up is a love poetry book and then a paranormal romance. We try to publish at least one book a year. Unfortunately, that’s all we can do unless we win the lottery. Lol!

twogalsandabook: How did you come up with the adorable idea of the both of you using the same pseudonym?

N. N. Light:  We both have first names that start with the letter “N” and Light is for our penchant for spreading the Light wherever we go.

twogalsandabook: Would care to share about your faith?

N. N. Light:

We’re both Christians, although we’re not too happy with organized religion. We firmly believe in the Bible and the core of our beliefs reflect Jesus’ commandments. Two big ones for us are:
“Love the sinner not the sin.” We love everyone and believe our role on this planet is to accept people for who they are and to never judge. There’s so many Christians today who are judging others and playing God. This is not their job and they will be shocked when they reach Heaven.

“Do to others what you want them to do to you.” Otherwise known as the Golden Rule. We try to live our life by this commandment. We treat others with love, respect, kindness like we would like to be treated. It’s not to receive anything in return but it’s the right thing to do. No person is better or worse than anyone else. We’re all equal in the eyes of God.

twogalsandabook: To close and just for fun, here are 5 fast questions:

What is your favorite color?

Purple

Food?

Anything Italian, pizza, chocolate, burgers, farm-fresh

Dream vacation spot?

Secluded oasis by a body of water

Fictional character?

Sherlock Holmes, Winnie the Pooh

If you had the super power to change 1 thing in the world, what would it be?

Everyone in the world would be fed and no one would be hungry. We support food banks and our mission is to end world hunger. In every neighborhood around the world, there are hungry men, women and children. People pretend it isn’t happening in their little corner of the world and it breaks my heart. NO child should ever go hungry and no person should ever humiliate someone else because they’re on welfare, go to food banks and/or are starving. It’s our responsibility as human beings to help others.

Thank you so much for having us! We had so much fun, here!

Twogalsandabook would like to thank N. N. Light for allowing us to read their inspiring book, doing the interview and generously offering one of their books for a giveaway!

Excerpt #1:
Be weird. Be random. Be who you are. Because you never know who would love the person you hide. –Unknown

You are special.  You are unique.  There is no one in this world who is like you.  You have a specific number of DNA sequences and nothing can duplicate it.

Are you living your life as a certified original?  Or are you trying to blend in?

Be who you are by being authentic.  Look at the above quote and ask yourself if you are allowing your originality to shine.

I sure am!

As a writer, author and blogger, there are so many people who tell me that I must do a whole list of things to be successful.  Do I?

No!

Why?  Because I am staying true to my original self and being authentic.  I am me, MRS N.  I am doing things my way and following my heart.  I don’t worry about my blogging numbers or the fact that no one has signed me yet.

Instead, I am being me and staying true to myself.  The followers will come and I will be signed.  I am enjoying the journey and learning a lot about myself.  I am growing and learning and you can do the same.

Look deep into yourself and find your authentic self.  Don’t worry about what people think or how they may view you.  Instead, be true to yourself and be authentic.

You are a certified original!!

Excerpt #2:

There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it. – Edith Wharton

Are you spreading the Light in your corner of the world?

I live in an old neighborhood in my town. The houses and buildings are established with trees towering over the streets. I love it!

As someone who walks every day, I run into a lot of elderly people. Many of them smile and are friendly. I stop and chat with them for a moment or two.

Why?

It makes their day and it’s my way of spreading the Light. It doesn’t take any effort on my part and their faces light up.

Want to make someone’s day? Stop what you’re doing for one second and say hello. Acknowledging another person and wishing them a good day is a great way of spreading the Light inside you.

There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it.

Excerpt #3:

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. – Harriet Tubman

I have a dream.  My dream is to be a writer, blogger and author.  My dream is to use words to uplift people and change the world.  I continue to work hard on my dream. Achieving a dream doesn’t mean the work stops.

What is your dream?

No matter what your dream is or how far-fetched it may seem, you can make your dream come true!  According to Harriet Tubman, all you need is strength, patience and passion.  Sure, it takes a lot of work but let me tell you, it is worth it!

Can dreams change the world?  You bet!  Harriet Tubman is the woman who created the Underground Railroad.  She had a dream of her people being free.  Through her internal strength, she created a network of brave men and women who helped a multitude of slaves get to the North.  She didn’t fear death because she had a dream and she was passionate about her dream.

Today, take a few moments and write down your innermost dreams.  Then outline a plan to make your dream come true.  List all the things you may encounter to prevent you from making your dream come true.  Finally, come up with a plan to defeat those obstacles and make your dream come true!

Your dreams can change the world!  Your internal strength, patience and passion will make it possible.
